Aspen Art Museum 24-Hour Opening Event

The much anticipated Aspen Art Museum is planning a 24-hour debut open to the public. Starting at 5pm Saturday, August 9 and going through 5pm, Sunday, August 10, the museum has a packed schedule of events. I have selected a few that I plan to attend and hope to see you there:

5 pm
Performance of Erik Satie’s Vexations – the start of an uninterrupted 24-hour piano performance on the AAM roof deck. A collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School.

8:30-10 pm
Concert: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – Fusing jazz, swing and Dixieland, the dynamic nine-piece band will bring energy to the closed streets adjacent to the museum. A collaboration with Jazz Aspen Snowmass

Midnight – 2 am
Silent Disco – DJ Naka G provides a live soundtrack to a roof deck dance party broadcast through wireless headphones

7-9 am
Sunrise Yoga – A yoga class and meditation session on the AAM roof deck accompanied by the continuing piano performance of Erik Satie’s Vexations, following by a light breakfast. A collaboration with Aspen Yoga

9-11 am
Family Workshop – Families with children of all ages explore and respond to both familiar and unusual organic shapes in the exhibition Rosemarie Trockel: Less Sauvage Than Others

noon – 2 pm
Cooking demonstration and special lunch menu – Julia and Allen Domingos culinary partners of the new AAM Cafe So, host a tasting featuring flavors from the new cafe menu

2-3:30 pm
Panel discussion: “With Liberty and Justice for All” – An interdisciplinary conversation addresses pressing civil rights issues of the 21st century in response to Jim Hodges’s outdoor installation. A collaboration with the Aspen Institute.
